Does anyone know how often the DPT patrols the Hill for violators? Cars blocking driveways, cars that haven't been moved in forEVAH, etc.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: DPT patrols?
Mon, June 18, 2007 - 2:53 PMi know on prospect we don't see them much, although we do have a number of neighbors who will call and report vehicles parked in one spot longer than three days. i've seen people come in pairs with two cars, park one of them on coso or prospect, and both hop in the other and drive off. annoying.
my guess is that they won't ticket you for blocking a driveway unless someone calls to report it - seeing as you're allowed to park blocking your own driveway (right?) and how would the DPT know if it's your car? we have an empty house across the street from us, and we sometimes park blocking their driveway at night since there's never any legit parking to be found, and we've never had a problem. but if you're blocking the sidewalk or crosswalk they'll ticket you, and for a bunch.

Re: DPT patrols?
Mon, June 18, 2007 - 2:54 PMI think you have to call them for those things (and even then you have a LONG wait). You can go to the city's website though and download little flyers asking people to park more carefully in the future (if they are just a little way into your driveway)....I'm not sure it helps much, but you feel like you tried something. We have a couple of neighbors with multiple cars, they rotate parking places whenever it is street cleaning, but otherwise don't move them. Never seen them get a tag or towed.
Good luck.

Re: DPT patrols?
Mon, June 18, 2007 - 11:51 PMMy hearse gets red tagged almost every three days. The car is so high profile and easy to remember that it's easier for my "neighbors" to be extra vigilant about it. However, I have seen some cars stay in their same spots forever without a ticket or tag because they look look every other car - white truck or silver sedan. -

Re: DPT patrols?
Tue, June 19, 2007 - 5:20 PMIt is not easy to find a 24'+ parking spot laying around Bernal Heights...especially at all hours of the night...and sometimes I don't get home from work until 3 or 4 am.
I used to live on the North side on Peralta, but now I live on the West side on Godeus. My cross street is Mission. I usually have to park 15 minutes walking distance away, towards the top of the hill. Since there are bars at the top, the spots vacated by late attending bar patrons help me out. -

Re: DPT patrols?
Wed, July 11, 2007 - 2:05 PMre: DPT, i saw them patrolling this morning which i almost never see. it was about 8:15am (on coso and montezuma), and i usually leave around 8 so maybe i usually miss them? they seemed to be ticketing the corner-parkers, which we get bunches of since all the legal spots get taken up. granted you shouldn't park blocking a sidewalk/crosswalk and definitely not blocking a handicap ramp (which we have virtually none of), but let me say this - if someone in a wheelchair was trying to roll up or down that steep part of coso, they'd have a LOT more to worry about than cars blocking their path. -

Fri, July 13, 2007 - 5:33 PMSpeaking of your corner, they are FINALLY painting that house.
Not the loverliest shade a yellow, but still an improvement. -

damn i hate the dpt!!!!!!!!!!!
Sat, July 14, 2007 - 11:32 PMi just started renting at prospect and eugenia and there is NEVER any parking and i already got towed once. i hate hate hate the dpt.
i have one little corolla for me and my three kids. i really wish i could park close to my house esp late at night when i have groceries in the car or something to carry but no there is never anything!
so i have to drive up to holly park and walk back to the house!
wish dpt would take care of old nasty cars which stay in the same place and tow them but otherwise leave us the hell alone! -

Re: damn i hate the dpt!!!!!!!!!!!
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 1:04 PMwe've been thinking about asking the neighbors if they'd be interested in permit parking for the block. we can't be the only ones having a hellacious time with parking. Kinnari would you sign a petition calling for residential permit parking on prospect? anyone else, thoughts? we'd have to pay for a yearly permit but i would gladly do so to avoid the long searches for parking spots.
ps- weazie - yes! doesn't it look better? they've been working hard on the inside too, and finally removed the porta potty out front, whew :) it'll be interesting to see who moves in - i don't think they can rent it out again since they used the ellis act to boot the lady who lived there. -

Re: damn i hate the dpt!!!!!!!!!!!
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 3:32 PMI think permit parking is long overdue for the Hill--and not just on Prospect.
Emily: I'm sure you're glad you no longer have to look at that portapotty anymore. I'd guess, once the building is clean up, they'll sell it, and let the new owners deal with the Ellis issues.

Re: damn i hate the dpt!!!!!!!!!!!
Tue, July 31, 2007 - 7:25 AMEmily:
The Hill has a long history of opposing permit parking and you can expect folks to come out of the woodwork in opposition of such a plan. Years ago the NWBA had meetings around this issue and over a 100 people would turn out. I doubt that it would really do anything to help us at night since more PP are limited to daytime hours. As for street sweeping...it is what is causing so many of the parking issues. We get the overflow from Elsie St. 2 days a week. We also get folks from Prospect who are probably feeling the pressure from street sweeping on Coleridge.
We need to work with DPT to get them to respond to folks that are parking in the neighborhood that actually don't live here if that is the case. You can't blame folks for trying to devise a parking strategy that works for them. If we had no street sweeping up on the hill I think we'd all be better off. It isn't a parking management tool and it doesn't work as one.
(Emily, I tried emailing you but my message bounced back) Please contact the North West Bernal Alliance at northwestbernal@aol if you're still interested in working on this issue. We have folks in the organization that attended many a parking meeting.)

Re: DPT patrols?
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 11:09 PMI had a roommate move in with an old pickup truck, he got red tagged every couple of days. His solution was to put a sign in the window with his address and phone number. After that the red tagging stopped.

surprise, surprise new DPT technology...
Wed, July 11, 2007 - 8:55 PMNo, I do not now the schedules of DPT, etc, but you all need to know that the DPT is now using new technolgy here in the Mission Distrirct that scans your license plate, and yes, no more chalking your tires, and if you do not have the zip code parking permit, you will get a parking citation. Also, you will have to move your vehicle to another street, not just move to another parking spot on this street.
Pass this along, cause it is coming your way
