Re: geranium
Mon, February 20, 2006 - 12:15 PMIt's yummy, but service is hit or miss. Don't go if you're in a rush, because sometimes the kitchen gets very backed up. They're very nice people, so be patient.
The brunches are also very yummy, but the coffee is pricey. And you run into the same service problem. Sometimes the stuff is ready in a flash, and sometimes it just takes forever.

Mon, February 20, 2006 - 12:39 PMTim and I have eaten there several times. Our food has ranged from decent to excellent, varying by visit. The food is simpler than say, Millenium, but not quite hearty and straightforward enough to be comfort food. Service is well-intentioned, if inconsistent.
We ate there the other night-- I had the pierogi, and Tim had the Morrocan tangine-- both were very good.

Wed, February 22, 2006 - 2:43 PMAgree with everything said above.
Personal fave is brunch. It'll cost a touch more than the average brunch place, but worth it--the bump in quality is more than offsets the marginal cost difference. And get the polenta fries, with maple syrup for dipping. Amazing!

Re: geranium
Wed, February 22, 2006 - 3:20 PMThey use Morningstar brand facon and other shortcuts, and I've had a salad there that consisted of nothing but iceburg lettuce ... but other meals have been fabulous. Dinner is better than brunch, but you don't get a lot of food for the price. -

Re: geranium
Wed, February 22, 2006 - 4:14 PMThe food is OK.
But the service is TERRIBLE. Don't get me wrong, they try. But sheesh, just watching them make an omlet is pain stakingly ssslllloooowwwwwwww. They just sit there and watch it cook. Poking it now and then and then flipping it with love, poke a bit more watch some more and...... They could of made ten omlettes at once if they just kept busy.
Plan for an hour before the meal when the restaurant is half full and two to three hours when it is packed.
I went in there a few days ago thinking they would improve. It was half full, and they were all stressed out trying to handle the few people there. I had to run away because of the bad frustration vibe from the staff who was working really hard doing practically nothing.
They're definitely in over ther heads. -

IMHO, this sort of omniscient commentary has no place in a constructive review.
Are you telling me you actually had a two or three hour meal there? Or are you just guessing?
Don't get me wrong, the kitchen has kinks that don't seem to be improving, but I think your review overstates its case. -

Re: geranium
Fri, February 24, 2006 - 4:04 PMI have actually waited over 2 hours to eat, after sitting down on a weekend.
And it made me frustrated and so I told you all what I thought.
The people are nice, stressed out and slow as mollasses.
Foods ok. -

Re: geranium
Sat, February 25, 2006 - 12:18 AMI enjoyed their food at this place. But what I really enjoyed the most was their Buffalo wings appetizer it's one of the best I've ever tried because they don't use tabassco sauce, which I really don't like. It's has a great spicy taste made with eggplants. Delicious. Service was okay. My friend had to get up to order the drinks.
I liked their chai latte.

Sun, March 19, 2006 - 12:09 PMI went there for brunch today. (And yes, the service was slow.)
They are closing.
They'll be open through the end of the month. Moki's Sushi will be moving into the location.
Don't know what will appear in Moki's old spot. -

Re: geranium
Tue, May 23, 2006 - 9:11 PMLots of open spots on Cortland these days. Briar Rose is closing and the other flower-like shop (near Holly Park) closed too. It looks like another Corner Store has opened in the old Reliable Grocery spot. The Charlie's Club, uhh...Chaise Lounge building is for lease too.
Does it seem that there is a high turn around rate in the neighborhood? -

Mon, May 29, 2006 - 5:30 PMI tried this place several times and altho the waitpeople were friendly and warm the food left much to be desired.

Wed, May 31, 2006 - 5:41 PMRed Hill Books seems to be thriving, however.
The new Moki's is bigger but not necessarily better. Gone is the quiet charm. Now it's all loudness and baby strollers. And you still have to wait for a table. -

Re: geranium
Thu, June 1, 2006 - 1:34 PMYeah, and, I would ad that I was there recently (2 weeks ago or so), and the service was BA-AD! We went in on a Wednesday evening, were seated right away, had our order taken right away, and then proceeded to be served our first dish right away. So far so good--then it all went downhill. Out of the four different sushi things we ordered....the 2nd one came about 1/2 an hour later, the 3rd one a half hour after that, then an hour or so later we were asked if we'd like to see a dessert menu.... Where was our 4th dish? So our server told us it was coming right out...... 1/2 an hour later a different server asked us if everything was ok, and we explained, and she said it's coming right out....yep, 1/2 an hour later after that, out came our last dish. When we tried to tell our server don't bother, she gave us a really rude response, even though we were being totally nice!! Then we asked about paying with credit card, and she said "cash only." When we expressed our surprise she just snootily said, "Yeah, um, it's on the door. You should have seen it when you walked in." ??? What was with the tone?
Anyway, I love Moki's and hopefully it's only because the location is new that the service was so lame. So I would't recommend going for a while...wait until they're all settled in there. And by the way, I didn't think the food at Geranium was good at all, so no big loss there!
