  Here's one alternative.
  
  Ride a bike to the 24th and Mission BART station, where you can lock your bike inside the station. Then take BART downtown-- it's very fast. (From NW Bernal, where I live, the station is an easy walk, but it's a little far to walk from where you are.)
  
  I like BART to downtown because it's fast, frequent, and you can wait indoors.

      i found the #27 at florida, just after bryant, and cesar chavez takes me right to powell and market!
